Kareem Moumina, Filipino-Arab American Painter, b. 2001

Kareem Moumina’s paintings are profoundly influenced by the places and memories that have shaped his life. Raised in his father's native Saudi Arabia, he discovered his passion for painting during a college course where his professor introduced students to 20th-century art masters.

Moumina was particularly captivated by the jungle scenes of French post-impressionist Henri Rousseau, which evoked memories of family trips to the Philippines. This inspiration led him to create a series of landscapes that blend the desert colors and terrain of Saudi Arabia with the lush wildlife of the Philippines, incorporating peacocks, monkeys, waterfalls, and tropical plants. Peacocks, which are his mother's favorite birds, became a recurring subject and symbol in his early works.

His paintings often explore the connections between memory, place, and identity. Working primarily in oil on linen, Moumina's large-scale works invite viewers into a world where nature serves as a bridge between cultures and personal histories. His creative process is intuitive, guided by color and emotion, allowing images to emerge organically from the canvas.

Now based in New York, Moumina continues to develop his artistic practice and share his work. He once took a class in Italy to refine his technique, and now, devoted to painting, he intends to pursue it for the rest of his life. Through his art, he seeks to reflect beauty, resilience, and the human experience, offering moments of wonder and connection to all who encounter his work.

“I believe that art is a beautiful way to connect with and show love for others. It's this understanding that inspires me to keep creating, knowing that my work can touch people’s hearts.”
